Preparing for the next 50 years of social change

For close to 50 years, organizations in The Public Interest Network have made a tangible impact protecting the public interest—organizing and advocating for a healthy and clean environment, safer marketplace, and a stronger democracy—while being the activist pipeline that gave thousands of college students and recent graduates their first taste of organizing and activism.

In 2020, a group of staff began having conversations about their work, and how they could make The Public Interest Network the best place to launch a career in social change.

They realized the best way to build the strongest organization and take on the challenges of the next 50 years was to give workers a democratic voice in the future of The Public Interest Network.

Where we are today

Today, a super-majority of eligible staff from across the Network have elected to be represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 2.
